Candice Tianyu Ji is a Chinese born, Japanese raised fashion designer specializing in menswear. Her work emphasizes draping, tailoring, pattern making, knitting, textile design, creating technical flats, making digital patterns through Gerber, as well as designing a collection from start to finish utilizing research, sourcing, and creative skills. Candice drew inspiration from the earthquakes in Japan for her graduation collection, she names the collection "Jishin" (earthquake in Japanese). Candice strongly believes that fashion is a way to present one’s personality and aesthetic. She interprets this concept as going against expectations and what is considered as “normal” to present one’s unique aesthetic, personality. Her mission is to expand the definition of dressing “normal”, and hope fashion can transform today into a better future. She wants to push the limits that men can wear extravagant pieces and skirts as well. She always wonders why do people see women in pants as a norm and men in skirts as an anomaly?
