Greggory Schaffer
My work revolves around showing the similarities and the differences between Celtic mythological and Celtic Christian iconography. I focus primarily on the triskele, the tree, and the standing stones of Europe. I am examining the relationship of these symbols with the Judeo-Christian Triune God and His creation, as well as the mythology and folklore of northern Europe, examining the juxtaposition, interplay, and dichotomy between them. I explore these concepts by creating sculptural books and miniatures, made with wood, and enhanced with copper, stone, enamel, and horn with the techniques of repoussé, forging, enameling, three-dimensional carving, and relief carving.
